| Elk River |
|
The Elk River is a spectacular freestone rocky mountain river. With a weed-free stone bottom, the dry fly action from numerous insect hatches is amazing. The summer season opens June 15 every year and the dry fly action carries right on through to mid October. The Elk River is packed full of healthy, wild, native Cutthroat trout ranging from 14 to 18 inches with an occasional fish in the 20" range. The Cutties in the Elk River are very thick, "Big Shouldered" fish due to the single, barbless hook restriction and the high levels of insect productivity. A day of dry fly fishing on the Elk River is nothing short of amazing and will keep you coming back for years to come.

| Wigwam River |
|
The Wigwam River is a magical place. Located deep in the Rockies along the Continental Divide, this river is one of the most beautiful rivers in existance. With crystal clear waters and the perfect mountain setting, a day on the Wigwam will make all other rivers feel unsatisfying. The Wigwam river is full of big boulders, log jams, and deep pools making great habitat for large healthy Cutthroat Trout and Bull Trout. This river is walk n' wade only, gear restricted to Fly-Fishing only with no weights or strike indicators, and is catch & release. These regulations have made the Wigwam River very productive and make the fly fishing extremely exciting.

| Michel Creek |
Michel Creek is probably one of the finest walk n' wade cutthroat streams in North America. This tributary of the Elk River is well known for having a healthy population of surpising large cutthroat. With predictable hatches and easy navigation this incredible stream needs to be experienced and will surely exceed your expectations. |
| Fording River |
This beautuful tributary of the Elk is magical. A tight valley with cold mountain river running through the middle, this river will exceed your expectations with the quality and size of fish. Enjoy a walk n' wade trip on this excellent piece of water. |

| St. Mary River |
The St.Mary River is located only about an hour away from Fernie and this beautiful stream is a perfect combination of spectacular scenery and great fishing. The fishing on the St.Mary is generally best in August and September with dry flies working for most of the day. Westslope Cutthroat are native to the river along with bull trout but over the past few years more and more rainbows have been finding their way into the system. The solitude of this river combined with excellent dry fly fishing makes it a favorite for many of our returning clients and friends.

| Kootenay River |
The Kootenay River was once thought of as nothing more than a mystery. Since all the major streams in the Kootenay Valley empty into the Kootenay River the summer is not the time to fish here. This river is fished best in April and May before runoff when we experience one of the best Mothers Day Caddis hatches found anywhere. It is common to float down this stream and see the banks boiling with rising cutthroat. Even with all of the exciting dry fly action the Kootenay offers, it is the bull trout which most of our clients are really after. Since the water level is low and clear many of these huge trout are caught on small streamers and nymphs. Once you spend a couple days on the Kootenay River you will surely be hooked into returning every spring to this unique fishery. |
| Still Water Fishing - The Lakes of the East Kootenays |
The East Kootenays is very fortunate to have over 50 productive trout lakes. By mid April many of these lakes become ice-free. Experience still water anglers know that the trout will become active and in search of aquatic insect life. Great hatches of Chironomids, Mayflies, Caddisflies, Damselflies and Backswimmers offer tremendous Still water fishing. Knowledgeable anglers may catch up to 40 trout during a hatch of Chironomids. Good populations of Scuds, Leeches and Dragonflies help the trout grow to trophy size! The introduction of Triploid rainbows (Sterile), offers the angler a chance at the trout of a life time. Each year lucky anglers land trout up to 10 lbs and the occasional fish may exceed 14lbs. Both 5wt and 6wt fly rods are recommended for still water angling. Floating and fast sinking fly lines help the angler match the abundant insect life.
The best months for Still water fly fishing are in the spring; April, May and June and then again in September, October and November. While fly fishing on our beautiful lakes, it is very common for anglers to see other wildlife, such as Deer, Elk, Moose and Bear.
Our still waters offer a wide range of fly fishing opportunities, a trip to one of our special lakes is highly recommended.
